Shelby, the twelfth Kentucky county, was formed in 1792 from part of Jefferson County. It is named for Isaac Shelby. Shelbyville is the county seat. The Shelby County Clerk, whose duties are numerous and diverse, records and maintains various legal instruments and Fiscal Court records.
